Family Nurse Practitioner located in Lakewood, CA

About Lisa Brown, MSN, FNP-C

I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA and did my initial Registered Nurse
training in Sewickley, PA at the same hospital I was born at, and volunteered as a
candy striper in. I went to nursing school about two months after graduating high
school intent on becoming a nurse, a calling I felt on my life from a very young
age. My dad has pictures of me taking care of him post-surgery when I was five
years old with my nurse’s kit. I relocated to Marco Island, FL in 2005 when my
children were both very young. I have had a rewarding nursing career and worked
as a RN in both the emergency department and labor and delivery for 24 years. I
have also worked as a clinical instructor for Florida Southwestern State College
teaching our future nurses. My most life changing experiences as a nursing
professional were during a medical mission trip to Guatemala in 2012 to care for
mothers and babies in the remote mountain area of Calhuiz, San Sebastian.
I decided to further my nursing education when my sons gained some
independence in high school and completed my Bachelor of Science in Nursing
from Walden University in 2016. I graduated Summa Cum Laude while working
full-time and raising my kids and found that I really enjoyed school and the sense
of accomplishment I had from excelling at it. I loved the example I was setting for
my sons and demonstrating to them the avenues that advanced education can
provide. I wanted to show them that hard work, determination, and giving your
personal best has its rewards. I continued on to graduate school and entered the
Family Nurse Practitioner program and Master of Science of Nursing program at
Walden University. I again graduated with a 4.0 GPA receiving the distinction of
the Presidential Commendation for Academic Achievement in August of 2019. My
oldest son Kyle is a Junior at Florida State University and my youngest, Jason is a
sophomore at Florida Gulf Coast University. They both are thriving in college and
are both pursuing their degrees in education.
The most exciting part of my story is when I met the love of my life Kurt.
We got married in May of 2018. We recently decided to relocate to California for
a job opportunity for him and we are loving all that southern California has to
offer. There are many opportunities that a family nurse practitioner can pursue,
but I knew from the very first conversation I had with Dr. Michelle that this is
what I wanted to do and where I wanted to be. I am looking forward to changing lives with her and can’t wait to meet you all and start getting involved with this
